Carlos Carlos Althier de Souza Lemos Escobar, Guinga, was borned on July 10th of 1950, in Rio de Janeiro.
He learned how to play guitar by himself, when he was 13 years old. Later he had some music classes, inclusive 5 years of classic guitar, with Jodacil Damasceno as his teacher. He started writing songs when he was 16, classifying his first song when he was 17, in the “Festival Internacional da Canção” (International Song Festival). He worked professionally with some artists as Clara Nunes, Beth Carvalho, Alaíde Costa, Cartola, João Nogueira and others. He graduated in dentistry in 1975. Always composing, he had a lot of his songs recorded by important names: Elis Regina, Michel Legrand, Sérgio Mendes, Leila Pinheiro, Chico Buarque, Clara Nunes, Ivan Lins and others. His compositions are partnerships between him and Paulo César Pinheiro, Aldir Blanc, Chico Buarque, Nei Lopes, Sérgio Natureza, Nelson Mota, Simone Guimarães, Francisco Bosco, Mauro Aguiar and Luis Felipe Gama. He recorded 6 albums on Velas Recording.

All of them were critics’ success. With “Cheio de Dedos” he reached the following Awards: “Prêmio Sharp 1996” – Best Instrumental Album, “Prêmio Sharp 1996” – Best Instrumental Music (Dá o Pé Loro), and “Prêmio Sharp 1996” – Best Prodution (Paulo Albuquerque). He had his songs recorded by Leila Pinheiro, in the album "Catavento Girassol" (EMI – ODEON Recorder). All the 14 songs of the album were written by Guinga, in partnership with Aldir Blanc. The music “Chá de Panela” brought him the “Premio Sharp 1996” of best popular brazilian music.
He had successfully international presentations: : “Festival Brasiliana-Madrid” ,in 1993, “Café Central-Madrid”, in 1996 (for 15 days), “Festival Internacional de Guitarra” - Cordoba (Spain) ,in 1996, and “Festival Braziliana-Jazz” (Copenhagen- Denmark), in1997. Recently he had presented himself in Perugia, Italy, where he also recorded an album with the clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi, in honor of Guinga’s job ,which will call “Graffiando Vento”.
The album "Suíte Leopoldina", launched in 1999, was an absolutely critic’s success, in radios, TV’s and newspapers all around the country.  It was elected by the critics of the newspaper “O GLOBO”  the best popular brazilian music’s CD of 1999. It was launched in USA, on may 15th, 2000.
In 2002, guinga had his complete biography written by the jornalist Mario Marques, in the book "Guinga, os mais belos acordes do subúrbio" (the most beautiful suburb’s accords), published by the Gryphus Publishing Company . In 2003 it was launched in the “Bienal do livro” a songbook called “A música de Guinga” (Guinga’s Music), also edited by Gryphus.
Also in 2003, he launched his 6th CD, “Noturno Copacabana”, which is being acclaimed by specialized critics.
